So, I thought it would be fun to start a weekly update of what I am doing in school and my current personal projects. This first week back at school has been the easiest one I’ve had in a while. I am so happy to be back in the studio and weaving again. I got the warp all finished so I will be good to go with my first project this semester. I am going to be working on a new scarf, just as a warm up piece.
I am also taking an illustration class this semester, which will be an interesting one for me. I signed up for this class because I wanted to be forced to draw more. Drawing is not my strong suit so I figured this would be good practice for me. It does make me a little nervous though because I still want to do well in this class.
For my current personal projects, I finished making a new sketchbook earlier this week. I realized after making my smaller sketchbook that I would need a larger one for my illustration work. I opted to sew a coptic binding on this one because I knew that I would need more pages. It’s not the prettiest binding but I think it looks pretty good for my first time. I also used up some of the paper that I marbled for the cover. Out of all of the books that I have made so far, this one is my favorite. It’s so pretty!

I am also working on a new beanie for myself. The one that I am currently wearing is one that I knitted using the pattern out of the book that taught me how to knit when I was a teenager. The hat is super cute and made from some really pretty wool yarn that I bought at the renaissance faire, but it is not very warm. So I am now working on a basic, ribbed fisherman’s style beanie. For this hat, I am using a more rustic, woolen spun yarn from the Brown Sheep Company. It is a wool/mohair blend in a bright red, very Jacques Cousteau, I love it!
