The beginning of the spring semester is fast approaching and there were just a few more things that I wanted to get done before I got too caught up in my class work. One of those things was making a new sketchbook.
Over the winter break I decided to learn the basics of bookbinding as a means of using up the crazy amount of paper that I have acquired since starting art school. So much of this paper is 18 x 24 and it takes up so much space in my home studio. I barely use it as my main focus is on weaving and not on painting or drawing. Also, over the last year or so, I have been tempted to buy an e-ink tablet like the SuperNote for note taking and sketching. Seeing as I have amassed a large quantity of paper, I decided to try and use it all up before taking the plunge on something so expensive.
It costs me nothing but time to use up what I have instead of letting it sit there and collect dust. This inspiration to create a sketchbook for myself also led me to make some for my siblings who draw way more than I do. It was pretty cool to use up some of the marbled paper that I made during my screen printing class last semester. These test prints made for some cool book covers. Of course, my personal sketchbook is the ugly one. I made sure to use the nicer prints for my brother and sister.
This has been a nice little side project for me and I look forward to making more little sketchbooks as I need them.
